Recovery: Most patients return home the same day of surgery. Initial discomfort, swelling, and tightness are expected during the first few days and are manageable with medication. Most patients can return to desk jobs within 3–7 days. Exercise and more strenuous activities can gradually resume after 2 weeks, but chest-intensive activities such as lifting, pushups, or bench pressing should be avoided for at least 6 weeks to allow for proper healing.

Results: Initial results are visible immediately, though implants take time to “settle” into their final position, a process often called “drop and fluff.” This can take 3 to 6 months, with final results becoming fully evident around 6 to 12 months after surgery. Patients typically enjoy improved volume, shape, and breast symmetry. While breast implants are long-lasting, they are not considered lifetime devices and may require revision or replacement over time.

Composite Breast Augmentation

Composite breast augmentation is a combination procedure that helps you achieve natural-looking results. This is accomplished by performing breast augmentation with breast implants to provide the desired volume to the breasts. The lack of breast tissue may hinder an aesthetically pleasing result, so liposuction is performed on areas of the body with excess fat deposits. This fat will be purified and injected into the breast pocket to help smooth the look and feel of the breasts.

Endoscopic Breast Augmentation

Dr. Arslanian is one of the ONLY surgeons in Atlanta performing the “No Breast Scar” Augmentation technique. In this technique, Dr. Arslanian can place your breast implants through a small scar hidden in the armpit or axilla. This specialized technique requires special video and endoscopic equipment and requires training that many plastic surgeons do not want to bother with. The obvious advantage is a breast augmentation with the same results, but with NO SCAR ON THE BREAST. Even though scars tend to heal well on the breast, they are often the telltale sign of an augmented breast. Most women in the Atlanta area are looking for a sexier but still natural look. Moving the breast scar is the only way to achieve a natural look.

Keller Funnel

The Keller Funnel is a device designed by surgeons for surgeons. In simple terms, it is similar to a pastry bag, and what it accomplishes is what you might say is the “Frosting on The Cake” for breast augmentation. The Keller Funnel is a polymeric film with a hydrophilic coating that allows a surgeon to place a silicone breast implant through a small incision into the breast pocket. This technique is quicker than other forms of augmentation, reduces the impact of trauma on the body during the surgery, and can be completed using smaller incisions.

No Touch Technique

The “No Touch” Technique is something that separates the average hurried surgeon from the detail-oriented surgeon who has your safety in mind. The Keller funnel is one of the major components of the no-touch technique. It allows the implant to be placed into the pocket with no trauma and no possibility of contamination by skin, glove, or instrument. There is literature supporting the role of both antibiotic irrigation and betadine irrigation in preventing implant infections and capsular contracture. Dr. Arslanian utilizes both of these throughout the procedure to ensure that the implant is completely sterile with minimal chance of contamination. 

Studies have shown that even after sterilizing the skin before surgery, the nipple-areola continues to produce bacteria during surgery. The implant could pick up this bacteria. To prevent that, Dr. Arslanian places occlusive “nipple shields” during the surgery so there is no chance that the nipple complex could contaminate the implant.

An often overlooked component, meticulous technique, and the prevention of ANY bleeding during surgery can impact results. Blood is believed to have an inflammatory factor, which may contribute to the process of Capsular Contracture. In addition, blood is a medium for bacterial infection, making it more likely that a few random bacteria can multiply into a full-blown infection. Dr. Arslanian believes in meticulous dissection to prevent ANY blood loss that can contribute to these problems.

“Scarless” Breast Augmentation

Scarless breast enhancement can be accomplished through a technique known as “TUBA” or transumbilical breast augmentation. In this case, the incision is made within the belly button, allowing the implant to be inserted and tunneled up to the chest region without obvious signs of surgery. Because the TUBA method requires extensive expertise and skill, it is not offered by all plastic surgeons. Dr. Arslanian is one of the few body contouring specialists in the area who has mastered this challenging protocol. With TUBA, saline breast implants are used, as they can be inserted unfilled, limiting the length of the incision.

Silicone Gel-filled Implants

Silicone breast implants are silicone shells filled with a plastic gel. They tend to have a more natural feel, are softer to the touch than saline implants, and have a lower chance of rupture.

Gummy Bear Implants

A subset of silicone breast implants, gummy bear implants (also called cohesive silicone gel implants), maintains its shape even if the implant shell is broken due to the consistency of the silicone gel, which is thicker than traditional silicone gel implants, which also makes them firmer.

Saline-filled Implants

Saline breast implants are filled with a sterile saline solution, similar to saltwater in the human body. They can either be pre-filled or filled once in place, so the sizing can be varied after they are inserted into the breast pocket.

Fat Transfer Implants

Also known as autologous fat transfer or natural breast augmentation, this natural approach involves using a person’s fat cells to enhance the size and shape of the breasts. In this procedure, fat is typically harvested from areas of the body where there is excess fat, such as the abdomen, thighs, or hips, through liposuction.

Many patients get caught up in the letter when it comes to implant size, which is completely understandable. While Dr. Arslanian will listen to your goals and do everything he can to meet them, it’s important to remember that the implant’s size will affect your silhouette’s appearance.

Dr. Arslanian will examine your body and help you determine a more natural, yet larger, implant size. Of course, if you want to go bigger, he will happily discuss that further with you.

Implant Placement

Implants can be placed in three different locations of your chest: behind the breast tissue, subglandular, or submuscular (beneath the pectoralis muscle). The submuscular placement is often the most common placement location because it can reduce the possibility of scar tissue contracture and allow for easier mammography. A subglandular approach is often the better choice for patients with sagging breasts. 

Dr. Arslanian will discuss all of the factors that will determine your implant placement, including, but not limited to, the filler used, the size of the implant, and the size and shape of your breasts before surgery.

Incision Placement

The placement of your incision is important because it not only allows Dr. Arslanian to perform your breast augmentation most efficiently, but it also determines where and how your scarring will look.

• Inframammary: An incision made at the bottom of the breast near the breast fold. This is the most commonly used incision, as it allows for improved accuracy of implant placement.
• Areolar or Periareolar: An incision made around the edge of the nipples. This incision serves as the entry point for the implant.
• Transaxillary: This type of incision is made in the crease of the armpit where the implant is inserted.
