The Fat Transfer Procedure

The duration of a fat transfer procedure will vary based on the treatment chosen and the extent of augmentin or enhancement desired. Each fat transfer procedure works in the three-step process, extraction, purification, and injection. In general, fat transfer is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. The exact steps of a fat transfer procedure are discussed below.

Dr. Arslanian and the patient will discuss and determine the donor site that will be used for the fat transfer procedure at the time of the consultation. This area will be marked before beginning the procedure to ensure precise and accurate removal of the excess fat. He will make a discreet incision near the donor site and insert a thin cannula into the tissue. Using a gentle suctioning technique, the fat cells will be removed from the body entirely to begin the next phase of the fat transfer procedure.

The harvested fat is then placed into a specialized centrifuge and ran through a purification process. After this is complete, only the most viable fat cells will remain for the injection.

Recovery

Once the fat transfer procedure is complete, patients will be able to leave our office and return home to begin their recovery. Dr. Arslanian will provide compression garments that should be worn on both the donor location and the augmented area to assist the body in healing and ensure the skin forms properly to the body’s new contour. To help alleviate any discomfort during the healing stage, Dr. Arslanian can provide patients with a prescription for pain medication. Although results can be seen immediately after the procedure, the full results can be seen after a few weeks, once swelling and bruising has fully subsided.
