What is a Full Fractional Ablative CO2 Laser?

Botox is an injectable that helps relax muscles throughout the body and treats many conditions like migraines, excessive sweating, bladder problems, contractures, lazy eyes, and more! The most common indication, however, is to resolve fine lines and wrinkles of the face. Botox has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002.

Botox helps to relax the facial muscles so wrinkles can soften and diminish. The active ingredient in Botox is highly purified botulinum toxin type A. This neurotoxin freezes communication between nerves and muscles by blocking nerve signals. As a result, the muscles no longer contract as intensely. Many wrinkles on the face form as a result of repeated muscle contractions – notably forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

Furthermore, we are finding out that treating patients at a younger age can prevent these wrinkles from forming in the first place.

hello gorgeous interior | Arslanian Plastic Surgery Atlanta Before & After Plastic Surgery Results | male procedure

The first step for each of our patients before receiving full fractional ablative CO2 laser treatment is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Brian Arslanian at Arslanian Plastic Surgery in our Atlanta office. This is a crucial first step, as the consultation will allow you to discuss service options in detail and determine which is best for your needs and goals. You will also share your medical history to ensure your safety, prevent severe complications, and predict healing outcomes. At the end of the consultation, you can schedule one or multiple appointments to receive the treatment outlined in your personalized treatment plan.

What to Expect on the Day of a Full Fractional Ablative CO2 Laser Treatment

On the day of your full fractional ablative CO2 laser treatment at our office in Atlanta, you will receive a strong topical numbing cream to minimize the discomfort from the laser. You’ll receive protective eye shields or goggles to protect your eyes. Depending on which option you choose, the laser will be set to a higher or lower power setting before Dr. Arslanian uses it on the targeted areas. The laser is generally described as a hot, snapping, or stinging sensation, but this is tolerable due to the topical numbing cream. Depending on the area treated, the session will take 20-30 minutes.

As the laser connects with your skin, it will leave tiny white dots from the micro-damage. Your skin may appear significantly red, swollen, and puffy after the session. You may experience an intense, throbbing, sunburn-like sensation for a few hours after the session.

Full Fractional Ablative CO2 Laser Recovery

As you recover from your full fractional ablative CO2 laser treatment in Atlanta, you should follow Dr. Arslanian’s instructions exactly to optimize results and minimize risks. The full fractional ablative CO2 laser will have about one week of downtime, while the CO2 “Lite” has about 24 hours of downtime spaced every 4 weeks for 3 sessions. You can expect some swelling, redness, oozing, and skin peeling as you recover.

Instructions from Dr. Arslanian may include steps like:

  • Apply cold compresses for 5-10 minutes every few hours to reduce swelling and heat
  • Keep your skin moist with the recommended ointment
  • Take plenty of rest
  • Take prescribed pain management medication
